Superal paces US Spring jungolf

MANILA, Philippines - Princess Superal used a strong start to fire a two-under 70 and open a two-stroke lead over ICTSI teammate Pauline del Rosario at the start of the Spring Junior golf tournament at the Menifee Lakes Country Club in Menifee City, California.

Superal, seeking to rebound from a mediocre stint in the Philippine Ladies Open last month where she struggled to finish joint sixth, went to work early with birdies on Nos. 3, 5 and 9 at the Palms course. But she slowed down a bit at the back, fumbling with three bogeys against two more bogeys for a 33-37 card.

But that proved enough to net her the lead in the premier class although Del Rosario stood just behind at 72 she saved after gunning down an eagle on the final hole of the Lakes layout.

Local bets Josie Lionetti from Valencia and Kaili Vongsaga from Diamond Bar both carded 73s, also at the Lakes, while Jinna Choi, also from California, turned in a 74.

Half of the field played the Palms and the other half at the Lakes with Superal and Del Rosario switching courses in the final day of the 36-hole competition serving as the first international tournament for Team ICTSI.
