Dunigan set for royal comeback as Kings import
MANILA, Philippines -- After much speculation, not to mention the long wait, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s legions of fans can now rest easy as the team already signed its reinforcement for the PBA Commissioner’s Cup over the weekend.
Player agent Sheryl Reyes confirmed Sunday night that Michael Dunigan is set to make his return to the Philippine Basketball Association after signing on the dotted line to be the Gin Kings’ import next conference.
Wrapping up his stint with the Canton Charge in the NBA Developmental League, it can be recalled that Dunigan, whom the PBA measured to stand at 6?-8 13/16, once suited up for the defunct Air 21 during the 2012-13 season.
As the Express’ import, Dunigan proved to be an intimidating presence averaging 23.8 points, 15.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.4 blocks per game.
“Michael Naiditch, Dunigan’s agent, and I have agreed on the terms thus paving the way for Mike to finally sign the contract last Saturday night,” Reyes said.
“Mike and his camp are very thankful to the Ginebra management for their patience and understanding, especially team manager Alfrancis Chua. He had to focus on the D-League showcase, that’s why he only decided to say yes to the offer the other night,” she added.
The 25-year-old, said Reyes, is excited to make his PBA comeback and is also looking forward to joining his Ginebra teammates, particularly Jayjay Helterbrand who he has grown close to during their bible study sessions in his first tour of duty in the country.
In the NBA D-League, Dunigan posted averages of 32.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists while playing for the Canton Charge.
