MANILA, Philippines – Home team Manila Mavericks placed third in the maiden International Premier Tennis League, finishing with 35 points behind tournament champions Micromax Indian Aces' 39 and runner-up Musafir.com UAE Royals' 37.
The DBS Singapore Slammers have 24 points.
The Mavericks gave a superb performance in their final match in the tournament, completely dominating the Slammers in all the five sets of the match, 30-15.
Mark Philippoussis, who only dropped a set in the entire tournament, prevailed over Patrick Rafter, 6-5 in the first set.
Philipp Kohlschreiber, the latest addition to the Mavericks, upset World No. 7 Thomas Berdych in the second set, 6-2.
Daniel Nestor and Kirsten Flipkens widened the lead for the Mavericks, nearly shutting out Nick Kyrgios and Daniela Hantuchova, 6-1.
There was no letting up for the Mavericks when Nestor and Kohlschreiber took the fourth set against Bruno Soares and Lleyton Hewitt, 6-4.
Flipkens closed the match for the Mavericks on a high note, beating Hantuchova, 6-3.
