Talatayod rolls past Trillanes, faces Aparte next

MANILA, Philippines - Aljon Talatayod rolled past Jan Harold Trillanes, 6-1, 6-3, to seal a semifinal duel with Angelo Aparte in the boys’ 12-under division of the 33rd PCA Open at the PCA indoor shell clay courts in Paco, Manila yesterday.

The second seed Talatayod dominated Trillanes in the early going then sustained his form in the second set to fashion out the easy win for a face-off with the No. 3 Aparte, who thwarted Alfred Doloroso, 6-4, 6-2.

Unheralded Daniel Estanislao III also continued his winning streak, easing out Sherwin Villacorte, 6-2, 7-5, to arrange a Final Four clash with Lawrence Quitara, who routed Ralph Joseph Pagtalunan, 6-0, 6-0.

In the 10-under unisex division, unknown Brent Cortes stunned No. 4 Macie Carlos, 4-0, 4-1, to set up a clash with top seed Miguel Luis Vicencio, who trumped Marc Andrei Jarata, 4-2, 4-0.

Second seed Rafael Liangco and No. 3 Rupert Ohrelle Tortal will face each other in the semis pairing after beating Prince Najeeb Langitao, 5-3, 2-4, 4-1, and Minette April Bentillo, 4-1, 4-0, respectively.

In other results, top seed Miles Vitaliano, second pick Alexandra Eala and No. 4 Lourdes Pe defeated their respective rivals to reach the girls’ 12-U quarterfinals.

Vitaliano held off Kiana De Asis, 7-5, 6-1; Eala defeated Devie Pearl Patoc, 6-2, 6-0; and Pe downed Kryshana Brazal, 6-3, 6-1.
