Cardinals, Titans barge into Fr. Martin Cup semis

MANILA, Philippines – The Mapua Cardinals and the Enderun College Titans are in the senior division semifinals of the 12th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup basketball tournament.

They earned slots to the semis last Thursday after the Cardinals turned back the University of Perpetual Help Altas, 88-87, and the Titans put away San Beda-B, 71-69, at the St. Placid gymnasium of the San Beda College-Manila campus in Mendiola.

Tora de la Rosa scored the winning basket with 14.4 seconds for the Cardinals, who arranged a semis clash on Tuesday (Oct. 28) with the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals in this cagefest, which is supported by Bauerfeind supports and outhouses, and medical compression stockings, and Wang’s Basketball.

In the junior division quarterfinals, Jason Celis knocked in a jumper with 9.7 seconds to go to lift the Adamson Baby Falcons to 75-73 win over Far Eastern University.

The Baby Falcons went on to set up a semis match with the NU Bullpups, who outplayed San Sebastian, 78-60.

The junior division semifinals is tentatively set on Nov. 4.

Xavier School, led by Tyler Tio with 17 points, defeated University of Santo Tomas, 77-71, to move into a match-up with the Arellano Braves, who leaned on the heroics of Charles Torrejos to stop San Benildo, 89-87, in overtime.

Willy Kamguia banged in two crucial charities with 13.5 seconds, sending Titans to a semis showdown with Red Lions.

Kenneth Magboo led the Cards with 15 points while JR Raflores struck with 18.

The Titans drew 16 points from Arvin Bernardo, while Turingan had 14.

The Red Lions won over National University, 76-69, while the Generals stopped Technological Institute of the Philippines, 84-81, in earning their seats in the semis.
