MANILA, Philippines - Mapua, Xavier School and San Benildo routed their respective rivals to boost their quarterfinal bids in the 12th Fr. Martin Cup Division 2 basketball tournament in various venues last weekend.
The Cardinals, led by Melvin Raflores, blasted the PUP side, 96-59, while Xavier, with Tyler Tio on the firing end, rolled past Adamson, 69-51, at the FEU gym.
San Benildo, headed by Lorenzo Castelltort, thumped Lyceum, 90-48, in juniors division of the tournament backed by Bauerfeind supports and orthoses, and medical compression stockings and Wang’s Basketball.
Raflores shot 13 points to power Mapua to the victory for a 4-1 card in Group B, paced by Xavier with a 5-1 mark.
Castelltort fired 16 points for San Benildo, which stayed on top of Group A in the junior side.
San Beda-A held off St. Benilde in overtime, 77-73, and finished its senior division Group A assignment with a 6-1.
In the other matches, Technological Institute of the Philippines-A won over Letran-A, 52-49; University of the East defeated St. Benilde, 63-48; and Arellano University prevailed over St. Michael-Laguna, 86-70.
