MANILA, Philippines - Averille Sacapano and Luke Flores hope to flash top form as they headline the big field in the Capiz leg of the Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala regional age-group 2014 presented by Technifibre beginning today in Roxas City.
Sacapano, 14, is actually entered in three categories where she has been ranked No. 1 in the 14-, 16- and 18-and-under although she expects to face tough opposition from the likes of Claire Clavaton, Joelle Diaz, Roselyn Bermejo and sisters Angelica and Angeline Suarnaba.
Flores, on the other hand, is the marked player in the boys’ 16- and 18-and-U classes with Charles Soler, Eric Cawaling, Robert Labris, Matthew Flores and Edmarl Casiple out to foil his bid in the four-day tournament sponsored by Palawan Pawnshop and sanctioned by Philta headed by president and Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez.
“This tournament is a good opportunity for the youth of Capiz, Roxas City to showcase their talent and skills against the other leading junior players from the other nearby towns and provinces,” said Noel Oloroso, president of the host Vistec Tennis Club. “The whole of Panay island is throwing its all-out support to this tournament which is a big boost to our local tennis.”
The Palawan Pawnshop age-grouper, with Technifibre as the official ball, is coming off a successful staging in Bacolod last week where a record field of 250 players vied in various divisions.
“It has been the company’s commitment to support tennis and provide our youth the venue where they could sharpen their skills, especially those in the countryside where we believe there are many untapped talents,” said Palawan Pawnshop COO Bobby Castro.
