MANILA, Philippines - A competition of champions.

That fittingly describes the 2014 Smart MVP Best of the Best Taekwondo Championships which will be staged Oct. 18-19 at SM Fairview.

Blackbelts from 12 regions, including ARMM, CAR, CARAGA and the National Capital Region will see action in the two-day tournament.

Tournament director Jesus Morales III, many-time national coach, says only gold medalists in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao national events, UAAP, NCAA, AFP-PNP Olympics, all PTA (Philippine Taekwondo Association) tilts in Metro Manila and the different regions and high-level organizations such as Taekwondo Blackbelt Brotherhood and Taekwondo Blackbelt Sorority and the Philippine contingent are qualified to join the competition.

Around 600 senior and junior male and female fighters are expected to participate in the different Olympic weight categories.

To eliminate human error and ensure accurate, fair scoring and spectator-friendly matches, taekwondo’s officiating system will be used. These include PSS (protective scoring system) and ESS (electronic scoring system), electronic armors and socks and IVR (instant video replay) to credit points that will reflect on the monitoring screen.
