MANILA, Philippines - Marvie Bustos hit a basket in the last 2.2 seconds, lifting Olivarez College to a thrilling 54-53 victory over Trinity University of Asia yesterday in the 13th Universities and Colleges Athletic Association (UCAA) men’s basketball tournament at the Trinity University of Asia gym in Quezon City.
The win was the Sea Lions sixth against one loss to remain on top of the heap while the Stallions bungled two winning chances at endgame, including a shot-clock violation that nullified Mark Doligon’s shot.
Doligon also heaved a triple at the buzzer but the ball rolled off the rim, and the Stallions absorbed their third setback in seven games.
Earlier, Kerr Bangeles made 19 points for Rizal Technological University, which waylaid Philippine Nautical and Technical College, 93-58.
The RTU Blue Thunder improved to 5-2.
The Stallions were ahead, 53-52, after Raymark Matias went for a three-point play in the last 1:19.
Dale Begaso led the Sea Lions with 14 points while Danny Masso had 13. Jackson Wong paced Trinity with 12 points while Matias had 11 markers.
