Oconer, Barnachea dominate bike challenge

MANILA, Philippines - National cyclist George Oconer and Michelle Barnachea topped their respective categories in the eighth FCAAF Friendship Day Robust Extreme Bike Challenge 2014 recently at the Baywalk on Roxas Boulevard, Manila.

Oconer, the best young rider of Ronda Pilipinas this year, ruled the men’s elite class with a time of 0:53:17.4, beating fellow national riders Jerry Aquino Jr (0:53:36.5) and Leonel Dimaano (0:53:36.6) in the one-day race sanctioned by PhilCycling.

Barnachea won the women’s elite title in 0:41:39.6, beating Julia Timau (0:41:39.8) and Marita Lucas (0:41:39.9).

The annual race is organized by the Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation and sponsored by ATC Healthcare International Corporation which manufactures men’s dietary supplement Robust, Robust Extreme, LiverMarin, Power Up Xtreme, Reducin, RedoXfat, Bitter Go, among others.

“We are fully supporting this endeavor to promote sports as part of a healthy and fit lifestyle which ATC’s various brands espouse,” said Louie Albert, ATC’s marketing manager.

In the MTB sports division, John Alberto Gulapa took a leading 0:48:59.5 time to capture the crown over Julius Delos Reyes (0:48:59.6) and Jake Aldrin Rivera (0:49:00.0).
