Cabrera bags two crowns in ROK Cup

MANILA, Philippines - ART Grand Prix junior driver Gabe Cabrera proved his kickoff victory was no fluke as he unleashed a dominating performance to capture both the ROK overall and junior crowns recently in the second leg of the 2014 Petron Blaze 100 ROK Cup Karting Super Series at the Carmona racetrack.

The 14-year-old Cabrera flattened a tough field that includes seasoned veteran Bobby Domingo as he swept the qualifying heat, the pre-final and the final races.

He topped the time trials in 44.33 seconds, nearly four seconds ahead, and ruled the pre-finals by 1.960 seconds ahead of Domingo.

As pressure mounts with the tight start in the final race, Cabrera managed to pull ahead and gained distance after every lap as he wrapped up the 20-lap race in 14:41.738,  or 2.183 seconds ahead.

Jacob Ang of Eagle Cement continued to show marked improvement as he checked in second overall to clinch the ROK Clubman crown and the ROK Junior runner-up honors over third placer Joseph Rene Tumambing.

Domingo finished third in the ROK overall class and also claimed the ROK senior plum over Wayne Darvin, Brian Thorp (third), Jenn Tumambing (fourth) and Lean Linao (fifth).
