MANILA, Philippines – The St. Clare Saints posted their second consecutive triumph last Tuesday, subduing the San Beda Red Lions, 88-76, at their own home court at the St. Placid gymnasium of the San Beda College campus in Manila.
Jayson Ibay and Cameroonian cager Fabien Redoh showed the way for the Saints, who joined the Red Lions in the hunt for quarterfinal berths in the 20th Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament.
Ibay and Redoh had 15 points apiece for the Saints, who now share the same 2-2 win-loss record with the Red Lions in Group B.
They are now behind the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers, who lead their bracket with a 4-0 slate.
The Saints’ latest win came a week after they got past the Diliman Computer Technology Institute (DCTI) Senators (Diliman Preparatory School), 76-44.
The Red Lions struggled to catch up after the Saints erected a 30-18 advantage right in the first quarter.
In other games last week, the University of Perpetual Help Altas moved ahead in Group A with their 5-0 slate, and after they whipped the Arellano University Chiefs, 81-71, while PATTS won over the Centro Escolar University-Malolos Scorpions, 71-70.
Trinity University of Asia stopped Far Eastern University, 83-72.
In the junior side, Our Lady of Fatima University defeated Adamson, 79-72, and Xavier School downed Chiang Kai Shek, 83-72.
