MANILA, Philippines - Reigning Asian karting mini-ROK champion Flynn Jackes emerged the lone young ace in a field of veterans to rule two separate races recently in the kickoff of the 2014 Petron Blaze 100 ROK Cup Karting Super Series at the Carmona Racetrack.
Struggling in the qualifying and pre-final heats, the 11-year-old Jackes gave the best he got to outsmart equally tough rivals and capture both the Mini-ROK XCS and KF Junior Restricted Blaze 100 crowns.
The feats gave Jackes a successful start as new spearhead of the local satellite affiliate of Team Kart Master Drakar of Singapore together with William Casequin and Bobby Redpath.
Casequin unleashed the decisive move in the final race which mattered most to clinch the Formula SL Novice Xtra plum while Redpath claimed fourth place in the Mini-ROK XCS and fifth place honors in the KF Junior Restricted Blaze 100 crowns.
Flynn started fourth on the grid with a lap time of 50.137 seconds in the time trials. But his incredible talent got more noticed than the three others who were nearly a full second faster as he moved up third in the pre-finals, just fractions of a second behind the top two.
Despite the strenuous effort of giving the same level of determination and intensity in the KF Junior Restricted Blaze 100, Flynn’s energy, endurance and mindset never waned as he still fared better with a runner-up finish in the final race and eventually was declared champion after Dylan Arambulo was stripped of the win on a technical infraction.
Unlike in the Mini-ROK XCS, Jackes was in total command of the KF Junior Restricted Blaze 100 where he swept both the qualifying heat and the final race.
Like Jackes, Casequin also waited for the right time to seize the day. He stuck close to pacesetting Sean Draeco McLelland in the qualifying and pre-final heats and went full throttle at the start of the final race to wrest control throughout pole before claiming the checkered flag 4.197 seconds ahead.
