MANILA, Philippines - A new crop of young stars emerged in the Junior World Qualifier last week at The Country Club. Among them was 15-year-old Dan Emilio Cruz.
Cruz is a late bloomer in golf, taking the clubs on a real course only four years ago. But that did not deter him of realizing his dream of competing for the country.
He, Rupert Zaragosa, Raymart Tolentino and Jelbert Gamolo will spearhead the Phl contingent in the boys 15-17 of the annual Junior World Championship in San Diego, USA in July.
More than 20 golfers passed the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines qualifier.
Through the help of his dad Dan Cruz, a multi-titled pro in the 1990s to early 2000, Dan Emilio worked his way up as they honed skills at the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club.
His progress has been fast and phenomenal and he could be one of the players on the pro tour in the future if and when he decides to take that route.
“My dad always reminds me to keep my focus and to continuously work on my game. Patience and hard work will pay off soon he says,†said Dan Emilio.
