Tri2014 fires off tomorrow at Hamilo Coast

MANILA, Philippines - John Chicano, fresh from his triumph in the 2014 Tri United I, goes for another win as he leads the crack field vying in the inaugural Aboitiz TRI2014 Triathlon firing off tomorrow, at 2 p.m., at the scenic Hamilo Coast in Nasugbu, Batangas.

Bannering the colors of team Unilab Active Health, Chicano will be facing rivals Nikko Huelgas (Century Tri Hard), Mark Anthony Hosana (ULAH) and former national champion Noy Jopson (Aboitiz) for the elite male crown and the P10,000 cash prize.

In the distaff side in the Standard Distance (1.5K swim-40K bike-10K run) event, 2014 Tri United 1 bronze medalist Maria Claire Ordona (ULAH), top duathlete Mirasol Abad (Sante Barley) and Jenny Rose Guerrero (Alaska) are tipped to dispute the title and the top P10,000 purse.

Race age-groups for males are set at 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, and 55-above, while female age-groups are composed of 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, and 45-above.

Team Relay, meanwhile, is composed of two-member and three-member teams. So far, 350 participants, including age-groupers and team relay members, have signed up for the competition presented by the Aboitiz Group and organized by Bike King (led by Raul Cuevas). For the team relay title, over 30 clubs have signed up.
