GNC supports bid to break Guinness world basketball mark

MANILA, Philippines - A top executive of the exclusive franchisee of the world’s largest self-care and personal enhancement retailer and provider supports the basketball marathon vying for a Guinness World Record which starts on March 24 at the Meralco Gym in Pasig City.

Edwin Gerry Angeles, marketing manager of Total Nutrition Corporation (GNC Philippines), said they are supporting the team in its quest to beat a Guinness World Record for the longest Basketball Marathon that was set at the Missouri Athletic Club in March 2012. The game lasted four days from the 21st to the 25th over the course of 112 hours and 13 minutes.

“A tryout was held last January to form a 30-man team,” said Angeles, adding that, â€œthe team members are undergoing medical evaluation to make sure they can stand the grueling number of hours it will take to reach their goal to shatter the previous record. It will be a test of both endurance and will. Their bodies will need to be in tip-top shape and will need a lot of recovery time after.”

GNC, the world’s largest company of its kind devoted exclusively to helping its customers improve the quality of their lives through their quality nutritional supplements, is one of the sponsors of this event. They know a thing or two to help the bodies of these athletes prepare for the attempt and even more importantly the recovery after.

“Basketball is, of course, a high impact sport that can do a number on the body in four, twelve-minute, quarters. Imagine what playing for 112 hours straight can do,” Angeles said.

GNC has expertly formulated products that offer support to these brave 30 men and women as they attempt to break this record. Multivitamins that have been designed to boost energy levels while providing a daily dosage of essential nutrients, an extensive line of quality protein supplements for muscle strength and endurance, as well as fish oils and other solutions to help the body recover from such a tremendous task in the hope to make our country proud.

As our national team is set to do battle at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain, Angeles enjoins the public to support our aspiring team who are trying to break the record for shooting hoops in another way.
