MANILA, Philippines - Cebuana Lhuillier Sports Ambassadress Katharina Lehnert begins her campaign to improve her world ranking as she vies in the ITF Women’s $100,000 tournament slated Feb. 10-16 in Michigan, USA.
“I was happy when Katharina decided to play for the Philippines, bringing her extensive professional experience to our shores. She serves as an inspiration to young tennis players in the country to achieve more and aim to play in the professional leagues,†said Cebuana Lhuillier president and CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier, also the current chairman of the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta).
The 20-year-old beauty from Germany started playing tennis at seven, first joining the ITF Juniors league before moving over to the pro leagues at 16.
Lehnert, together with fellow Cebuana Lhuillier Sports Ambassadors Treat Huey and Ruben Gonzales, represented the Philippines in the Southeast Asian tennis championships in Bangkok, Thailand last year. She won a bronze medal in the women’s singles and took a silver in the mixed doubles match with Huey.
Huey and Gonzales recently led Cebuana Lhuillier Philippine Davis Cup team’s 3-1 victory over Sri Lanka in Colombo. They will next face the winners between Vietnam and Pakistan in the second round tie in April.
