MANILA, Philippines - Lucban whipped BJMP-Quezon, 79-62, to remain the only unbeaten squad in the fourth Gov. David Suarez Basketball Cup last weekend at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City.
Joel Canizarez had 21 points while Haper Mondragon added 15 as the Lucban cagers rolled to their fourth straight win in the event organized by the Quezon provincial government to give Quezonians a showcase for their basketball skills.
Ryan Panzo had a team-high 16 points in pacing the Governor’s squad to a slim 67-64 victory over Lucena in the event backed Alaxan, Ritemed, Unilab and Sinclair Paints.
“With the way the top teams are fighting, I think we will have exciting games until the finals. Dikitan pa ang laban,†said Gov. Suarez, who also saw action for his squad and is putting up a P50,000 cash prize for the champion.
In other matches, Mike Flores waxed hot with 30 points as Mauban dumped PNP-Quezon, 88-77, while Buenavista crushed Sacred Heart College, 103-54.
Quezon provincial coordinator Jonas Guiao Jr. said he expects more fans to watch the games as the tournament enters its homestretch.
