UAAP lends hand to ‘Yolanda’ victims

MANILA, Philippines - The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) kicks off Season 76 second semester action with a turnover of its donation for the victims of super typhoon Yolanda during the opening ceremony for volleyball on Dec. 1 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The day before on Nov. 30, Season 76 host Adamson University will partner with the Malolos City local government through Mayor Christian Natividad for a fund-raising exhibition basketball match between the Soaring Falcons and the Philippine Basketball Association Legends headed by ex-Adamson stars Kenneth Duremdes and Marlou Aquino. The proceeds of the event set at 6 p.m. at the Malolos City gym will also be for the Yolanda victims.

Appropriate ceremonies for the volleyball competitions have been set by the UAAP but, according to Season 76 secretary-treasurer Malou Isip of Adamson University, it will take an inspirational twist when the league turns over at least P300,000 in cash donation to ABS-CBN’s Sagip Kapamilya.

At 2 p.m., the second semester volleyball action opens with last year’s runner-up Ateneo road-testing a rookie-laden roster opposite the Dindin and Jaja Santiago-led National University (NU) at 2 p.m. and “four-peat-seeking” De La Salle taking on darkhorse Adamson University in the 4 p.m. main game.
