Wack Wack President's Cup to raise funds

MANILA, Philippines - The President’s Cup, one of Wack Wack’s signature tournaments held in honor of its incumbent president Dr. Philip Ella Juico, will serve as a fund-raiser for victims of super typhoon Yolanda when it is held Saturday at Wack Wack’s West Course in Mandaluyong.

Juico set aside a seed fund of P100,000 originally intended for the purchase of more raffle prizes. He also said they would donate whatever revenue the President’s Cup would generate through sponsorships.

“We are all aware of the devastation wrought by super typhoon Yolanda and the club is currently soliciting donations in cash and in kind for the victims of this calamity,” said Juico.

Donations will be coursed through the government and private agencies involved in relief efforts.

During the registration, organizers will designate a table and staff to accept contributions as well as pledges for donations which Wack Wack will advance and be billed in the member’s monthly statement of account.

“I look forward to a successful President’s Cup but most of all I anticipate your generosity in reaching out to our affected countrymen in the Visasas who are in dire need of our help,” said Juico.

He said that cash donations and relief goods such as rice, canned goods, bottled water, used clothing, blankets, sleeping bags or mats, medicines and other basic necessities would also be accepted.

“The club will coordinate with the government or private relief coordinating centers for the immediate transmittal of cash donations and delivery of the relief goods. It is our fervent hope that we could be of assistance where and when needed most,” said Juico.

The club recently donated P50,000 to ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya for the earthquake victims in Bohol and Cebu, the funds of which were raised from the sale of autographed gloves of Filipino boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao, in addition to an earlier donation of used towels and clothing.

A maximum field of 288 is expected to participate in the tournament, which will have a double shotgun start at 6:30 a.m. and 12 noon.
