MANILA, Philippines -- DLSU coach Juno Sauler pointed out the hot shooting of Kevin Ferrer as the key to their 72-73 Game 1 loss Wednesday in the UAAP Finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
"We're okay with Jeric (Teng), I think it was Ferrer who killed us. Jeric shot 36 percent in the two point area. I can live with that but the 62 percent of Ferrer from three is what killed us," said DLSU coach Juno Sauler.
Despite the stinging loss, the cerebral Sauler did not seem too bothered and wanted to focus already on improving for Game 2.
"I think we did have a slow start, we couldn't get ourselves going because Arnold (Van Optal) and Jason (Perkins) got two fouls early and Ferrer shot three 3-pointers," said the first-year head coach.
"They've been starting well the past couple of games. We just need to make sure they don't do that again in the next game," he added.
Come Saturday, expect Ferrer to be a marked man by the Archers' defense while Sauler will look for ways to improve their offense, which was scuttled by the Tigers' ferocious defense.
"We need to take away those shots of Ferrer from three, play better offensively and get good shots to increase our field field goal percentage," said Sauler.
