MANILA, Philippines - Manny Angeles bucked the cold weather with steady shots and hot putting to finish runner-up in Division A in the MercedesTrophy Asian Final at the Pines and Palms courses of Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club in Australia.
Angeles scored 33 Stableford points at the Kangaroos- and Wallabies-laden Pines course then a 34 at the Palms layout. Mark Ramos settled for second place in the guest division.
Angeles earned a berth as one of the players of the East Asian Team representing CATS Motors-Philippines in the 24th MercedesTrophy World Final slated in Stuttgart, Germany next week.
The realtor flies off on Sept. 24 full of hope in extending the winning run in the World Final, a renowned tournament exclusive to Mercedes-Benz owners worldwide.
Last year, Leonides “Lee†Latayan helped the East Asian squad, composed of Tyronne Weerakkody of Sri Lanka and Chin Chee-keong of Malaysia to the crown that was awarded at the Mercedes-Benz Museum.
Angeles’ road to Germany began when he ruled the eighth MercedesTrophy National Final, sponsored by PLDT, Makati Shangri-La, Shell V-Power Nitro+, Seaboard Eastern Insurance, Arrow and TW Steel, at the Sta Elena Golf Club.
Sta. Elena Properties, Security Bank, Duty Free Philippines, Singapore Airlines, Canon, Asia Brewery, Johnnie Walker, Business Mirror and Impact backed the CATS Motors-organized annual tournament.
