NU cagers post wins in Fr. Martin Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Cagers from National University came up with convincing wins on two fronts, while the Diliman Computer Technology Institute (DCTI) Senators pulled off an upset in the ongoing 11th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup basketball tournament.

The NU Bulldogs, led by Ralph Napa and Alfredo Aroga, clobbered the University of the Philippines Maroons, 87-63, in Group A of the senior division at the St. Placid gymnasium over at the St. Placid gymnasium in San Beda College-Manila.

The Bullpups relied heavily on the hot hands of Jordan Sta. Ana as they walloped the San Sebastian Staglets, 83-60, in the Group A of the junior action.

The DCTI Senators (Diliman Preparatory School) drew big baskets from Mark Yaon was they shocked the College of St. Benilde Blazers, 65-51, in Group A of another senior contest.

Napa fired a game-high 16 points for the Bulldogs, who marched to their third win in four matches.

Aroga had 11 points, scoring seven of it in the second period as the Bulldogs broke free from a 12-all deadlock in the first quarter and soared to a 45-22 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs moved behind the University of Perpetual Help Altas (3-0), the San Beda Red Lions (4-1) and the La Salle Green Archers (3-1).

Sta. Ana shot 26 points for the Bullpups, including eight triples, which helped carry his squad to their third win four outings in their bracket.

Yaon tallied 24 points off his eight treys as the Senators went on to notch their second triumph in five matches in Group A.

Meanwhile, the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs scored their first win in four matches over Malayan High School, 64-45.

Miguel Vison made 18 points for the Tiger Cubs, who improved at 1-3.
