Iloilo L League bows to USA Southwest, absorbs 2nd loss

MANILA, Philippines - Iloilo Province fell into a spate of errors and bowed to USA Southwest in regulation, 3-14, for their second straight setback in the Little League Softball World Series Friday (early Saturday in Manila) at Alpenrose’s Main Field in Portland, Oregon.

The Asia-Pacific representatives engaged their rivals from Robinson, Texas in a 2-2 standoff early on but could not sustain the form and surrendered 12 runs, mostly error-aided, in the second inning to drop to 0-2 in Pool B.

Iloilo will try to bounce back Saturday night (Sunday morning in Manila) when it takess on Canada’s Hampton LL (1-1).

The Ilongga clouters, the shortest entries among the field in the centerpiece 11-12 bracket, are looking to carry Phl pride after 2012 Manila South failed to defend the Big League title while Senior League bet Laguna also missed the semifinals in the competitions over in Sussex County, Delaware.

Manila and Laguna were originally slated to play in the consolation stage Friday (Saturday in Manila) but per organizers’ twit: “Lightning and severe thunderstorms cause(d) remainder of the games tonight to be suspended and they will not be made up.”
