FEU's Romeo named UAAP Player of the Week

MANILA, Philippines - One of the reasons why Far Eastern University is on a hot start has been the transformation of Terrence Romeo.

Rued for his individualistic plays in his first three UAAP seasons, Romeo is meshing well with the team-oriented philosophy of new coach Nash Racela as the Tamaraws won their first three games.

The heroics of last year’s Mythical Five member earned him the distinction as the season’s first ACCEL 3XVI UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week.

Despite the new role, Romeo hasn’t relinquished his scoring ways, averaging 21.3 points per game.

But he has also averaged 10 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.0 steals in wins over University of the East, Ateneo and University of the Philippines.

“Hindi pa rin ako ganun kasaya sa laro ko,” Romeo admitted. “Nakaka-score nga ako pero minsan bumabalik pa din dun sa ginagawa ko na dinidiskarte pero sinusubukan ko talaga na mag-chip-in para makatulong sa team.”

Romeo began to show how he has changed on opening day against UE, producing 21 points, nine rebounds and 12 assists in an 89-78 win last June 29, and likewise scored 21 in a 79-75 overtime victory over Ateneo three days later.

On Sunday against UP, he hit 20 points, including nine straight in the fourth to end a 17-0 run by the Maroons.

Romeo bagged the weekly honor also presented by Gatorade and scribes from the national broadsheets, tabloids and online publications over University of the East’s Roi Sumang, La Salle’s Arnold Van Opstal and the University of Santo Tomas duo of Kevin Ferrer and Jeric Teng.
