MANILA, Philippines - Princess Superal bucked tough pin placements and Michelle Koh’s final round charge to capture the Premier Division crown with a closing 71 while Sofia Chabon took the Division 2 plum despite an 80 as Team ICTSI-Philippines completed its domination of the Singapore Amateur Open Thursday.
Superal, who built a three-shot lead over Koh with a second round 67, held sway with a strong start and went on to cruise to a four-shot romp on a 54-hole aggregate of seven-under 209 at the Laguna National Golf and Resort.
“The pin placements were so much tougher in the final round. Thank God I managed to put my ball in the right position all day,†said Superal, the highest ranked Filipina in the World Amateurs at No. 67.
Superal’s victory, which made up for her joint runner-up finish with ICTSI teammate Cyna Rodriguez in last week’s Malaysian Amateur won by Kelly Tan, also earned her an exempt status in the US Girls’ Juniors Championship set in Indiana in July.
Chabon, who started the round six ahead of Taiwan’s Lin En, struggled to finish with an 80 but still ended up with a three-shot win on a 225 as Lin also limped home with an 80 and dropped to third at 231.
