Pastor vies for honors in Euro Nascar-France

The Philippine Star

Enzo Pastor, who finished an impressive fourth in the Circuit Paul Armagnac in Nogaro, France last April, sets out for a milestone finish in the Circuit de Dijon-Prenois also in France this weekend.

Pastor, one of the country’s best race car drivers, drew international attention when he finished fourth in the second race of the 2013 Euro Racecar NASCAR series last April 8 in Nogaro, France.

The fourth-place finish was an achievement in itself considering that this was his first try at NASCAR racing and he finished 21st in his debut in the first race a day earlier.

“We’re confident of a podium finish next (this weekend). If the April races proved anything, it’s that the best is yet to come for Enzo,” said Philippine Formula Autosports Foundation, Inc. (PFAFI) president Tom Pastor.

â€œIf he had another lap or two in that race, Enzo would have overtaken them all,” said the elder Pastor.

His speed of 1.52 seconds per lap during the second race after a new engine was installed in his car, surpassed the first placer’s 1.53 per lap.

Pastor will have more chances to land on the podium as he attempts to complete a whole racing season for the first time since he last won a championship in the Formula Renault Asia Series 11 years ago.

The Euro Racecar Nascar Touring series is a one-make competition featuring American Nascar-style cars specially built for European road courses. Powered by 450hp Chevrolet V8 engines, the four-speed, rear-wheel-drive cars have the same specifications as the ones used in the annual Race of Champions.

The series is the only event sanctioned by both NASCAR and FIA.
