Tiu scores anew, boosts overall bid

MANILA, Philippines - Jonathan Tiu of JCT-Blanche Racing scored back-to-back victories in Quick 8 to bolster his bid for the overall crown in the second leg of the Petronas Philippine Drag Racing Championship Southern Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit recently.

Seeking his eighth national title, Tiu made it a 1-2 finish for his team as he captured the Quick 8 crown over teammate Jonathan Young in 13.236 seconds. He got past Arvin Jay Millet of TEMZ in the first round then turned back Marc Manalo of RSL Motorsports in the semifinals to earn his crack at the title.

It was a fitting follow-up to his impressive stint in the Southern Series where he led a 1-2-3 finish by the JCT-Blanche Racing Team, that included Jayson Ong and Rommel Dural, in the Quick 8 division.

More importantly, the victory kept him in strong contention for the Southern Series crown and the overall national plum in the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and sponsored by Petronas, Yokohama, GT Radials, M&H Tires and media partner Racing Beat at Wave 89.1.

But out to foil his bid is young drag racing sensation Arvin Jay Millet, who also firmed up his hold of the solo lead in the premiere M&H Pro class, which he ruled for the third straight time.

The M&H Pro class holds a bigger weight in the tabulation for the coveted Drag Racing Driver of the Year together with a certain percentage of the points garnered in the Quick 8 class.
