MANILA, Philippines - Christopher Popp and Mikhaela Fortuna bested their respective rivals to top boys’ and girls’ Class C, respectively, in the third Philippine Junior Golf Championship (The Montecillo) at Orchard’s Palmer course in Dasmariñas, Cavite recently.
Popp carded 73-75-73 for 221 to beat Jets Sajulga and Aidric Chan by one stroke in the annual tournament organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP).
Sajulga and Chan both made 71s to finish with identical 222s with the former nipping the latter in the countback to bag the runner-up honors in the event sponsored by ICTSI, Pancake House, Sizzling Pepper, Teriyaki Boy, Phil. Golf Foundation, Duty Free, McDonald’s, Pacsports, Golf Depot, PAL and Acacia Hotel.
Fortuna, meanwhile, defended her crown with a 221 after a 71, foiling Bernice Ilas-Olivarez, who had a 75 for 223. ICTSI’s Sofia Chabon placed third with a 224 after a 73.
Josh Jorge also retained the boys’ Class D with a 71 for 223, four shots ahead of Jolo Magcalayo (80-227). Jed Dy finished third with an 80 for a 233.
