MANILA, Philippines - Jayvie Agojo bounced back with a one-over 73 but fell farther behind as fancied Minjee Lee sizzled with a seven-under 65 to take control of the South Australia Rene Erichsen Salver golf championship in Adelaide, Australia Friday.
Agojo settled down after a disastrous opening of 77 but the top ICTSI-backed bet’s two-birdie, three-bogey stint and a 36-hole haul of 150 put her way off Lee, who struck back from a so-so 75 with a solid 65 for a 140.
Winner of last year’s US Girls Junior crown and reigning Australian Women’s Junior champion, Lee raced to a seven-shot lead over erstwhile leader Cathleen Santoso, who fumbled with a 76 after a 71 for a 147.
Cyna Rodriguez, winner of the Vesta Cup (stroke play) and the match play titles in the South Australia Women’s Amateur Championship two weeks ago, continued to sputter, limping with a six-over 78 and dropping 15 shots off at 155 with two rounds left in the South Australia’s premier amateur championship.
Ashley Ona carded a 73 to tie Agojo at third while Grace Lennon and Sue Wooster pooled a 151 and 154 after a 73 and 77, respectively.
