Marian, Clarice forge rematch

MANILA, Philippines - Marian Capadocia re-asserted her mastery over top seed Marinel Rudas and fashioned out a 6-2, 6-2 romp to arrange a title rematch with Clarice Patrimonio even as Johnny Arcilla and Patrick Tierro dispute the men’s singles crown in the third Cainta-Palawan Pawnshop Open Tennis Championships over the weekend.

Capadocia, chasing a second straight crown after pulling off a stirring come-from-behind 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(2) win over Patrimonio in the recent Olivarez Cup, overwhelmed Rudas with a superb all-around game to complete a surprisingly one-sided victory for another shot at the championship.

But she needs to double her effort as Patrimonio primed up for a payback with an equally resounding 6-3, 6-2 win over Roxanne Resma in the other semis duel of the event presented by Palawan Pawnshop and held in cooperation with Mayor Mon Ilagan and Babolat.

Like Capadocia, the top seeded Arcilla stayed on course for a golden double although the reigning Olivarez Cup champion needed to rally from an opening set setback to frustrate Fil-Italian Marc Reyes, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.

This time, however, Arcilla, a many-time PCA Open champion, won’t be facing doubles partner Vicente Anasta in the finals but the third seed Tierro, who humbled the No. 2 Anasta with a 6-4, 6-4 victory in the other Final Four clash.
