John Hay rules Corporate Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Camp John Hay Forest Lodge flashed top form at home and ran away with the Group I, pooling rounds of 154 and 157 for a 311 and an 11-point romp over Dipza in the 25th Camp John Hay Philippine Corporate Cup at CJH Golf Club in Baguio City last Thursday.

Thirdy Escaño strung up 56 and 55 Molave points, Monet Garcia carded two 50s while Shean Bedi backed them up with 48 and 53 as the host squad retained the crown in the premier category of the four-to-play, three-to-count event founded by former Philippine Sports Commission chair Cecil Hechanova in 1989 and now headed by Southwoods chair Bob Sobrepeña.

Jayson Yu, John Hay’s fourth player, had 39 and 47.

Dipza, led by Edi Lim and Tony Kong, assembled 145 and 155 for 300 while Team Baguio, headed by Chester Calpotura and Mars Garcia, placed third with a 295.

Escano’s 111 aggregate also netted the veteran Interclub campaigner the individual crown, beating Bong Brobio of Interconnect Systems (108) by three, while Aian Arcilla of Team Nice Day Coffee finished third with 106.

Davao Tuna Grill drew 45 and 49 points from Ricky dela Paz while Alexander Go and Wilfredo Bonilla had 94 and 91 points, respectively, as it scored a 273 to cop the Group 2 crown with a 273 for a seven-point win over Rizgolf 3.

Led by Ronald Canlas and Tiberius Espinosa, Rizgolf 3 made a 266 while Rizgolf 2 shot a 259 to place third in the 36-hole, four-day event marking the silver staging of the annual event which gathered the country’s top golfing firms and corporations.

The event was sponsored by The Manor at Camp John Hay, RizGolf Sports Marketing, Ricoh Philippines, Titania Wine Cellar, Nice Day Coffee and Le Chef with the Premier Cars BMW serving as the tournament shuttle with Manor Hotel as tournament and special events venue.

AMSI Shakey’s Calamba scored a wire-to-wire triumph in Group 3 with a 274 for a seven-point win over Rural Bankers I (267) while AMSI Calamba Doctors Hospital finished third with a 260.

Repsol-Imarflex I topped Group 4 with a 265 for a whopping 14-point victory over Toyota Baguio, which had a 251, while Team Orion wound up third with a 250.

Rizgolf 6, on the other hand, captured the Group 5 plum with a 255, posting a huge 24-point win over Davao Tuna Grill 4, which pooled a 231, while ABGC1 ended up third with a 226.
