MANILA, Philippines - The United Football League yesterday suspended Phl Army FC’s Rodrigo Betita for six months for assaulting assistant referee Ronaldo Yurag in a 0-3 loss to Kaya FC at the McKinley Hill grounds last Tuesday.
Betita’s suspension, signed by league general manager Cesar de Larrazabal and posted on UFL’s official website www.uflphilippines.com.ph last night, was the stiffest sanction slapped on a player in recent years.
Elle Cagayanan of Green Archers United-Globe and Alejandro Veliz of Second Division team Agila FC were also suspended for five matches for their involvement in a brawl.
Cagayanan left the bench and kicked Kaya FC’s Dario Dakic while Veliz did the same on Cimarron FC’s Miguel Alberto Gutierrez.
Banned for three matches were Gutierrez and Agila FC’s Zaldy Maranon Jr. for kicking and punching each other.
Dakic, on the other hand, was suspended for two matches for assaulting Green Archers United-Globe skipper Chieffy Caligdong while Archers team manager Jose Ramon Garcia was likewise banned for two matches for attacking Kaya’s Sabah Sadeghi Gamaroudi.
