Global welcomes back coach with 6-0 win over Army

MANILA, Philippines – Global blanked a hapless Phil. Army side, 6-0, to vault to the top of United Football League table Tuesday night at the Emperador Stadium in McKinley Hill, Taguig.

Azkal Jeff Christiaens led Global’s scoring parade with a brace on coach Brian Reid’s return at the helm.

Reid, who went home to Scotland to process his UEFA pro license, came back after missing Global’s two games and buckled down to work immediately coaching the powerhouse club to the most lopsided result of the young season.

Newcomer Ben Starosta and Misagh Bahadoran, who scored on a beautiful scissors volley, gave Global a commanding 2-nil lead in the first half before Christiaens went hot in the second half.

Christiaens first scored in the 49th minute then followed it up with another goal off Izzo Elhabib's chest pass in the 74th minute. Matt Uy and Marvin Angeles capped off Global’s scoring explosion in the closing minutes after Army’s keeper Ed Sacapano got subbed by Victorino Troyo.

It was the fourth straight win for Global, who now leads the league on 5-game goal difference over the second running Stallion, who also has a similar four-match winning streak.  Phil. Army, meanwhile, remained at the bottom after a third straight loss.
