The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The San Beda College of Alabang Sea Lions reasserted their superiority anew as they topped the 14th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) South swimming competitions at the SBCA pool in Alabang, Muntinlupa City recently.

The SBCA tankers bagged the women’s, boys and girls overall championships while De La Salle Lipa-Batangas took the men’s overall crown of the 14th edition of the NCAA South hosted by the University of the Lyceum Philippines-Batangas.

Based on 9-7-6-5-4-3 points system awarded to the first to sixth places, respectively, La Salle Lipa bagged the men’s championship with 183 points, SBCA was second with 168 and University of Perpetual Help-Laguna with 68 points.

SBCA, bannered by the six-golds and one silver of senior Ma. Angeli Alvarez, won the women’s title with 153 points, La Salle Lipa was runner-up (120) and Don Bosco Mandaluyong third (72).

Marco Danielle Callanta captured four gold medals (three individual and one relay) in powering the SBCA boys squad to the championship with a whopping 324 points, La Salle Lipa was a distant second (118) while First Asia Institute of Technology and the Humanities of Tanauan ended up third (104).

Former Palaro standout Catherine Bondad bagged six golds to lift the SBCA girls’ squad to the championship with 336 points, way ahead of runner-up La Salle Lipa (178) with Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas third (38).

Alvarez, Callanta and Bondad also emerged as the most outstanding swimmers in their respective divisions while University of Perpetual Help’s Wilson Rabino, who won four individual golds, topped the seniors category.

“I’m happy with the performance of my team although we fell short in the men’s side because La Salle Lipa had more swimmers,” said SBCA coach Dondon Roxas. “Hopefully we can come up with this strong performance again next season of the NCAA South.”
