MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Far Eastern University outlasted University of Santo Tomas in overtime, 64-57, to clinch the last semifinal berth in the second Dickies-FCBL (Filipino-Chinese Basketball League) Women’s Cup at the Philippine Buddhacare Academy gym in Quezon City recently.
Dragged into a rubber match after dropping a 70-66 loss in Game 2 that also ended in extra time last Saturday, the Lady Tamaraws relied on Vangie Soriano, Camille Sambile and Ana Valenzona to frustrate UST’s upset bid.
Soriano led FEU with 14 points, 15 rebounds and four assists while Valenzona took over in the fourth, scoring all her nine points.
With the win, FEU, which finished the elims at No. 4, drew elimination No. 1 Adamson, which scored an easy 80-66 win over Ateneo in the event backed by Smart Telecom, Powerhouse, CW Home Depot, Jumbo Plastic Linoleum and Hapee Toothpaste.
The other semis pairing pit No. 2 College of St. Benilde with No. 3 and sister school La Salle.
