MANILA, Philippines – WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. said a fight between him and IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander is close to being finalized.
Mayweather made the announcement on his Twitter account.
The negotiations for my fight are almost done. The front runner is IBF Champion Devon Alexander. It’d be a unification bout at welterweight.

Boxrec.com, an online database of boxers' records, lists Alexander as Mayweather’s opponent for the fight on May 4 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas
Alexander has a record of 25-1, with 13 KOs – his only loss coming against Timothy Bradley – while Mayweather is undefeated in 43 fights, 26 of which are knockout wins.
Mayweather hasn’t fought since May last year when he outpointed Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto for the WBA super welterweight title.
