MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern University held Centro Escolar University to just six points in the final period as it scored a 60-35 blowout to gain a piece of the lead in the second Dickies-FCBL (Filipino-Chinese Basketball League) Women’s Cup over the weekend at the Philippine Buddhacare Academy gym in Quezon City.
With Vangie Soriano and Camille Sambile at the helm, the Lady Tamaraws turned a slim 20-17 halftime lead to a 38-29 lead at the end of the third before rattling their rivals with their solid defensive effort to complete the rout last Saturday.
Sambile, who emerged as the Dickies Player of the Game, and Soriano combined for 30 points to help the Lady Tamaraws notch their fourth straight win to tie Adamson.
The Lady Archers, meanwhile, ended Adamson’s four-game run with a 58-51 victory behind Trisha Piatos and Mary Joy Ong also last Saturday.
Upsets marked Sunday matches with Lyceum and University of Santo Tomas besting their rivals to keep their bids for twice-to-beat incentives in the quarterfinals of the event backed by Smart Telecom, Powerhouse, CW Home Depot, Jumbo Plastic Linoleum and Hapee Toothpaste.
The Tigresses also leaned on a torrid second half performance to beat the Ateneo Lady Eagles, 66-55.
