Gilas routs Indonesia to open Hong Kong tiff

MANILA, Philippines – Garvo Lanete scattered 21 points as the Smart Gilas national basketball team routed a hapless Indonesian squad, 110-78, to start on a positive note in the 19th Super Keung Sheung International Basketball Invitational Championship at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wanchai, Hong Kong this afternoon.

Gilas also got solid contributions from PBA reinforcements KG Canaleta and Gary David, breaking the game wide open in the final quarter after leading by as much as 18 points.

Next on Gilas’ schedule is a game versus Hong Kong tomorrow, followed by its last preliminary match in Group B against Malaysia on Thursday.

Defending champion Southern California Fukienese Association, Hong Kong Xinlibao Bulls, Changsa Park, and Thailand form Group A.

Squads that top their respective groups will meet in the crossover semifinals on Saturday, with the winners facing off in the finals the next day.
