The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Yakult 10-Miler, the country’s pioneer and longest-running 10-mile race, is back on the road on March 17.

Yakult Phils., Inc., announced the staging of the event, now on its 24th year, at the Cultural Center Complex grounds in Pasay.

Registration fees are P500 for the 16K run and P450 for the 5K and 3K runs inclusive of a running singlet issued upon registration. All finishers will receive an additional finishers t-shirt and a bottle of Yakult, the unique health drink with lacto bacilli shirota strain.

Cash prizes plus trophies and Yakult gift packs await the top five finishers of the 16K run. The 5K and 3K top three finishers will receive medals  and Yakult gift packs. Although the 3K run is open to individuals 18 years and above,  top finishers awards will only be for kids 6 to 9 years old and 10 to 12 years old.

In last  year’s edition of the Yakult 10 Miler, Kenyans dominated the top five places, with Benjamin Kipkazi  running off with the championship trophy, Willy Rotich,  coming in second, Samson Tuwie, third, and Eliud Kering fifth placer. The lone Filipino who managed to enter the magic circle of five is Eduardo Buenavista (fourth).

Like in the men’s division, two female Kenyans dominated the distaff side with Irine Kipchumba finishing first, followed by compatriot Susan Jemutai, Christabel Martes, Miscelle Gilbuena and Janette Agura.

According to Michael Ong,  Yakult Phils., Inc. sales and planning manager, registration is ongoing at four Mizuno Outlets: Trinoma Mall (tel. 916-6495), SM Megamall (634-6293), Bonifacio High Street at Bonifacio Global City (856-1432) and at SM Mall of Asia (915-1946).
