MANILA, Philippines - Roxanne Mae Resma collared the 18-under and 16-under girls’ singles titles to lead the winners of the 24th Andrada Cup National Age Group Tennis Championships at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center yesterday.

Living up to her top billing in the 16-U, Resma disposed of No. 5 Khim Iglupas, 6-4, 6-2, to set the tone for her crowning glory in the last day of the ranking Group 1 tournament.

Some three hours after her romp, Resma took the court anew and played like a true No. 1 seed in the centerpiece 18-U, where she nipped Isabella Orteza, 7-5, 6-3, to complete a golden double.

Meanwhile, fourth Stefan Suarez created an upset of sorts in the 16-U boys’ singles finale as did Mikaela Vicencio in the 12-U girls’ singles of the event sponsored by Dunlop Fort All Court Balls, Philippine Sports Commission, First Solid Group, St. Luke’s Medical Center and Sagip Bayan Foundation.

Fourth seed Suarez upended No. 3 Eric Olivarez, Jr., 6-0, 7-6 (5), to seize the 16-U crown while Vicencio stunned No. 1 Carlyn Bless Guarde, 6-0, 6-3, for the 12-U diadem.

But Olivarez bounced back to defeat Andrew Cano, 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-3, to capture the boys’ premier 18-U crown.

They were joined in the winners’ circle by Diego Dayrit, Janus Ringia, Bryan Otico, Monica Therese Cruz, and Andrew and Jose Cano, who all received their awards from commissioner Buddy Andrada of the Philippine Sports Commission under whose name the event was held.

Dayrit topped the 10-under unisex play via a 7-6 (5), 6-3 dispatching of Alexandra Eala while Ringia trounced Michael Eala, 7-6 (4), 6-3, for the 12-U boys’ singles plum. Seventh seed Otico edged No. 2 Emmanuel Vacalares, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(6), to reign in the 14-U boys’ hostilities as Cruz ruled the distaff side via a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 dispatching of Frances Angela Santiago.

The Canos hacked out a 2-6, 6-2 (10-4) victory over Kyle Joseph and Brysl Libao to dominate the 18-U boys’ doubles diadem.
