CSB, Adamson keep Dickies-FCBL lead

MANILA, Philippines - College of St. Benilde and Adamson beat their rivals in contrasting fashions to remain tied for the lead while Centro Escolar University notched its second straight win in the second Dickies-FCBL (Filipino-Chinese Basketball League) Women’s Cup at the Philippine Buddhacare Academy gym in QC last weekend.

The Lady Blazers went to Mhead dela Torre and Tin Madrid at crunch time to hack out a 64-52 win over La Salle for their third straight win in the event presented by Dickies.

Dela Torre finished with 17 points, including seven in the payoff period which she capped with a trey that scuttled the Lady Archers’ bid. 

Madrid, on the other hand, wound up with 11 points, fours assists and three steals to clinch her second Dickies Player of the Game award in the tournament backed by Smart Telecom, Powerhouse, CW Home Depot, Jumbo Plastic Linoleum and Hapee Toothpaste.

Adamson likewise posted its third straight win with a walkover victory over Lyceum.

In other games, CEU, starring Janine Pontejos and Folashda Agunsemuyen, overpowered Ateneo, 67-52, while defending champion Far Eastern University crushed University of Santo Tomas, 71-56.

The win was also the second straight for the Lady Tamaraws, tying the CEU belles at third with 2-1 records. 

Camille Sambeli led the reigning champions with 26 points, 20 of them in the first two quarters. She had also eight boards, two steals and the same number of blocks to likewise bag her second Dickies Player of the Game award.
