MANILA, Philippines - Eduard Folayang got the shock of his life when he absorbed a TKO (technical knockout) loss at the hands of American Lowens Tynanes in their “Superfight” card in the Universal Realty Combat Championship-Colt 45 Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
With blood oozing from a gaping cut above his right eye, the one-time SEA Games champion in wushu was finally declared out at the 6:22 mark in the first of their scheduled three-round match witnessed by a huge crowd.
The URCC welterweight champion did well early on but was jolted when he was elbowed by Tynanes. The referee stopped the fight as blood continued to drip, a decision that left Folayang and fans alike in utter disgust.
The loss was third in 15 fights for Folayang.
Folayang’s defeat came after Eric “The Natural” Kelly posted a courageous win over Brad Terry via armbar decision in the third and final round with the Filipino champion fighting with one eye almost closed.
Despite the handicap, Kelly still managed to outmanuever his rival to extend his unblemished record to 9-0.
“I just did my best to win,” said Kelly, the 27-year-old from Baguio City. “Ganoon ang lahing Pilipino, hindi sumusuko kahit putok na ang isang mata.”
Also posting big wins were Rodrigo Praxedes who dethroned Froilan Sarenas in their middleweight clash while Jessie Rafols kept his bantamweight crown by beating Kieff Mangusan in the event sponsored Xplay Online Games, NBA2K13, Anzahl, Solar Sports, Chris Sports, VRP Medical Center.
Other winners were pinweight Lito Adiwang, bantamweight Onyok Transmonte, flyweight Dennis Salazar, Jonathan Sumogat, featherweight Reydon Romero and light heavyweight Caloy Baduria.
