La Salle, Adamson stay in hunt for PCCL slots

MANILA, Philippines - La Salle charged back from 13 points down to turn back Perpetual Help, 75-72, while Adamson rolled past La Finns Scholastica, 102-57, to stay in the hunt in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League at the First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities (FAITH) gym in Tanauan City, Batangas last Saturday.

Veteran guard Almond Vosotros fired 11 points in the fourth quarter while top rookie Jeron Teng unloaded 10 markers in that stretch as the Archers completed their fightback to advance in the stepladder, knockout stage of the nationwide tournament.

Teng came through with a pair of tough shots in the closing minute to shatter the 70-all count and cap the Archers’ stirring comeback to frustrate the Altas and arrange a showdown with the Falcons in the next round.

Nic Omorogbe cracked under pressure and flubbed two charities in the closing seconds while Earl Thompson committed a turnover to hasten the Altas’ downfall.

The Falcons scored 25 straight points in the first five minutes and went on to post the lopsided victory that set them up against the Archers on Thursday at the Cebu Coliseum.

Jericho Cruz poured in 14 of his 19 points in the first half while Jansen Rios and Rodney Brondial also turned in big numbers for the Falcons, who notched their fifth straight win in as many days.

Renbert Bayo scored 16 points for La Finns Scholastica of La Union, which came from behind to nip University of Batangas, 89-86, in their previous match.

Meanwhile, PCCL action shifts to Cebu tomorrow with West Negros and Holy Trinity clashing at 2 p.m. and Univ. of Visayas taking on Univ. of San Jose-Recoletos for spots in the next round.
