MANILA, Philippines - As part of its annual physical fitness program for its employees, Victoria Court AMH is taking part in the coming 2012 MBL Corporate Cup 2 basketball championship at the Lyceum gym in Intramuros.
Bannered by HR supervisor Arnold Lasay and hotel manager Richie de Ocampo and import Ricky Maurillo, Victoria Court AMH will field a young but talented lineup culled from various hotel branches which took part in the recently concluded Victoria Court Basketball League.
The team includes four members of the Victoria Court-North EDSA, which bagged the title in the Victoria Court Basketball League following a 94-76 win over Victoria Court-Malabon in their one-game finale.
The four players are Joey Quintos, Jan Michael Galupo, Ferdinand Matuba and Nolan Fermin. Also in the line-up are Warren Valenciano and Samboy Ortega of Victoria Court-Malabon.
The other team members are Richie de Ocampo of Victoria Court Had Office; Arnelio Manimano, Manuel Cheng, Robert Quetua, Eric Tanyag,Roden Molina and Billy Jay de Roxas, all of Victoria Court-Pasig; and Jorge Razo of Victoria Court-Balintawak.
Defending champion Star Group of Publications and Wang’s-PRC Couriers head the list of teams seeing action in the two-month long tournament being held as part of the MBL’s 12th year anniversary celebrations.
The other invited teams are Smart, Maynilad, Philippine Coast Guard, Union Bank, Gerry’s Grill, KABAKA, Sogo Hotel, EDSA Shang and Sea Lions.
Last year, Star Group defeated 100Plus Isotonic Sports Drink in their winner-take-all final to capture the title at the San Andres gym in Malate, Manila.
Handled by coach Alfred Bartolome and manager Mike Maneze and player Jhomg Bondoc, the Starmen defeated 100Plus, 64-58, to win the title last Oct. 22. Dennis Rodriguez was named as MVP.
