MANILA, Philippines – La Salle-Dasmariñas fought back from an opening setback to beat Olivarez College, 22-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-22, in the opener of the 11th Universities and Colleges Athletic Association volleyball finals at the Olivarez College gym in Sucat.
The Patriots drew big plays from veterans Joel Villanueva, Alvin Cacayurin, Abdul Alkasim and Hudri Kona to repulse the Sea Lions in the men’s division finals.
The Lady Patriots, on the other hand, relied on the heroics of rookie Monique Tiangco in the final set as they turned back the Philippine School of Business Administration Lady Jaguars, 25-15, 25-21, 25-15, in the event backed by Mikasa and Molten Balls.
Villanueva scored eight straight points off the serve as the Patriots shattered at 5-all count to seize control en route to a 25-22 win in the second set.
Alkasim then led a 4-0 run in the next set with drop shots and kills, before teaming up with Cacayurin and Kona as the Patriots swept the next two frames to move within a victory of nailing their 10th crown.
