MANILA, Philippines - Filipino-Chinese Veterans Basketball Association (FCVBA) walloped Asaba of Indonesia, 75-42, to kick off its back-to-back title bid in the 60-years-and-above division in the 21st ASEAN Veterans basketball tournament in Brunei last Thursday.
With former PBA hotshot Lim Eng Beng, Bong dela Cruz, Zotico Tan and Welcoat House Paints’ Terry Que leading the attack, FCVBA dominated Asaba to post its second straight win in the annual tournament.
Que, who also co-owns PBA Governors’ Cup champion Rain or Shine, sizzled with 18 points while Lim backed him up with 12 points while pulling down 12 boards in another solid all-around performance.
The win came on the heels of its 62-50 drubbing of Kuala Lumpur early in the day where Tan, a MICAA veteran, and Jimmi Lim combined for 22 points.
FCVBA, whose campaign is bankrolled by Que, Jimmi Lim of Ironcon Builders and Edward Tio of Freego, is out to sweep the three age categories in the tournament, including the 40-years and 50-years-old categories.
FCVBA’s 50-years squad, which was playing against Hat Yai of Thailand at presstime, is gunning for a record fourth straight championship while its 40-years team, bannered by Bong Tan, is also shooting for back-to-back championships.
