Celtics star due for 2-day visit
MANILA, Philippines - NBA superstar Rajon Rondo, the Boston Celtis’ triple-double artist, will hit town on Aug. 28 to share his skills with the top Filipino collegiate players at the Red Bull Skills Clinic.
Rondo, known for his double digit performance statistics at points, rebounds, and assists in the NBA, will also turn over a refurbished court to a local barangay community.
The NBA All-Star is currently on his Asian tour for the Red Bull King of the Rock in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Red Bull is currently finalizing its plans of bringing the property here in Manila on 2013.
But Rondo has always heard about basketball as the Philippines’ national sport and decided to make a pit stop to see how basketball-crazy Filipinos really are.
Part of his visit is to spend time with young but exceptional college cagers of the UAAP and the NCAA at an intensive skills development session, the Red Bull Skills Clinic, on Aug. 28.
Rondo will then lead Red Bull Product of Europe’s local court refurbishing project at the San Juan National High School in Barangay Corazon de Jesus in San Juan City from 3 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 29.
Like any other player who wants to make his mark in the pro league, Rondo had to make it to the top the hard way.
He earned his spurs as a young, third string point guard and played a supporting role in his rookie year in the NBA. He languished behind the shadows of his more illustrious teammates.
But he persevered and worked hard to hone his craft before becoming a certified superstar, becoming one of the best point guards in the NBA today. He is one of the elite triple-double athletes of the league, consistently achieving double digits in points, rebounds, and assists.
Young, up-and-coming players will get an opportunity of a lifetime to learn from one of the game’s best at the Red Bull Skills Clinic. It’s a chance for these players to elevate their game at a higher level and be guided beneath the wings of the NBA superstar.
