MANILA, Philippines - Four Filipino fighters, led by Eduard Folayang, get a rare chance to compete with some of the world’s best when the One Fighting Championship: Pride of Nation unwraps Aug. 31 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Folayang, a SEA Games gold medalist in wushu, will face Felipe Enomoto, a well-rounded fighter from Japan, hoping to bounce back from a recent defeat in Singapore and improve on his 11-2 (win-loss) record.
But the 27-year-old Filipino fighter, of Baguio-based Team Lakay and the country’s reigning welterweight champion in the local-based Universal Reality Combat Championship, will face a formidable foe in Enomoto, who stunned crowd favorite Ole Laursen at ONE FC: Battle of Heroes in Jakarta, Indonesia a few weeks ago.
“I’ll just try to give it all and make my countrymen proud,” said Folayang in Filipino.
Another URCC titlist, flyweight Kevin Belingon, will also make a ONE FC appearance as he will battle untested but dangerous Korean Soo Chul Kim while two other Filipinos – Honorio Banario and Andrew Benibe – slug it out for the URCC featherweight crown.
“I’m excited to see these four talented and highly skilled Filipino champions compete at ONE FC: Pride of a Nation,” said ONE FC CEO Victor Cui to www.mmamania.com.
Although the main bout is between DREAM champions Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki and Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, focus will also be on Ultimate Fighting Championship title-holders Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia.
MMA fans around the world can watch the ONE FC action online via live streaming at www.onefc.livesport.tv. The undercard fights are available for viewing free-of-charge while the main card fights will be available for purchase on Pay-Per-View at $9.99.
