Asian top karters brace for showdown

MANILA, Philippines - The region’s leading drivers gear up for a showdown in the premiere Formula 125 Open Senior crown in the Philippine round of the 2012 Asian Karting Open Championship set July 27-29 at the Carmona Racetrack in Cavite.

Twenty-six karters will test the limits of their machines, skills and strategy in pursuit of the coveted plum in the premier division of the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines.

A total of 83 participants have so far have confirmed their participation in the country’s biggest karting meet with the bulk coming from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Macau and Hong Kong.

Majority of the field have arrived yesterday and are billeted at the Vivere Hotel, which will host the welcome dinner and Drivers Briefing on Friday.

Inspired by the championship feat of Andrew Tang last year, Singapore is fielding in a crack roster of 11 karters, including seven vying in the Formula 125 Open Seniors headed by Macau kickoff third placer Anderson Martono and Mohammad Nasri Naufal Bin Nasir, who’s currently third overall with 26 points.
